There was a plan, the body seemed not to be objecting, and the weather seemed suitable (25/07/2009). An adventurous journey was thus undertaken. It meant approximately 2.75 miles of road running first to get to the start point of the adventure but that didn’t seem to matter. I thought that I had undertaken the same run about 17 years previously but I couldn’t really remember the route at certain points. Google Maps helped and so I left with some confidence that I could indeed complete the task and that it would take around 90 minutes. It turned out to be a very pleasant run on a relatively warm and sunny day and, further, I was able to learn more about my local environment and the relative placement of roads, paths and other key features. It turned out to be a 90 minute journey of investigation and exploration although tiredness took over towards the end of the run and I tripped on the root of a tree and I ended up face down in a muddy path. Only pride was damaged!

In a video for my African American history class it mentioned that during the 1700′s when some slaves ran away they would follow a system of well beaten trails only slaves knew about in order to see family members in other plantations. Does anyone know of a site I can visit that would show maps of some of these trails or books that may show them. Thanks for the help.
